Clearing homes in Monkstown
Monkstown runs from the sea at Seapoint and Salthill up through the village to the old castle and Monkstown Farm. The coast road and the squares behind it were built from the late eighteenth century on, and the terraces of Longford Terrace, Belgrave Square, Montpelier Parade and Monkstown Crescent are among the finest Georgian and Victorian houses in the county: four and five storeys including the basement, with granite steps, long back gardens and a mews or coach house at the end of them.
Over the years many of those mews were converted into houses in their own right, and many of the big houses were divided into flats, so a single address on Monkstown Road can hold several households. Further from the sea the housing changes to 1930s and later semi-ds, the council-built houses of Monkstown Farm and apartment blocks on the roads towards Deansgrange.
Monkstown village has its church, the pubs and a row of shops, and the DART at Salthill and Monkstown and at Seapoint puts the area a few minutes from town. Blackrock is on one side, Dún Laoghaire on the other, and Glenageary and Sallynoggin are inland.

What we clear in Monkstown
- Whole period houses on the terraces and squares when a long occupancy ends, which with four or five floors is a multi-day job. See our house clearance page.
- Flats within the big houses, often a basement or a top floor, cleared between tenants or after a sale. Our apartment clearance page explains how we handle shared hallways and stairs.
- Mews houses in the back lanes, small inside and approached down a lane the van may not fit.
- Bereavement clearances in family homes that have been in the one family for generations, worked at the family’s pace.
- Semi-ds and apartments towards Monkstown Farm and Deansgrange, usually a one-day clearance with easier access.
Access, parking and the practical bits
Most of Monkstown is residents’ permit parking or pay-and-display, and the coast road and the squares are busy. We find the nearest legal spot, pay where we have to, and the cost and the time are built into the quote. If the house has a rear lane to the mews, loading from the back is often quicker than the front steps and keeps the footpath clear.
The houses are tall. A top-floor flat is four flights up a stair that narrows as it climbs, a basement flat is reached down granite steps with a turn at the bottom and the original front doors are wide but the internal doors are not. We carry everything by hand and dismantle furniture that will not make the turns.
Mews lanes are often too narrow or too tight at the corner for a box van, in which case we park at the end of the lane and walk items out. Tell us where the property is and we will work out the best approach before the day.
Why people in Monkstown call us
Monkstown clearances are most often about a parent’s or grandparent’s house that has been in the family for a very long time, with the furniture and papers of several generations to go through. We take those slowly, set aside anything that looks personal or valuable and work in whatever order suits the family. Our bereavement clearance page explains the approach in more detail.
Landlords and executors with a flat to turn around make up the rest, along with people downsizing out of a large house and into one of the newer apartments nearby.
We carry Waste Collection Permit NWCPO-25-13287-01 and full insurance. Antiques and good furniture are kept out of the waste stream for reuse, donation or sale by the family, recyclables are separated and the remainder goes to a licensed waste transfer station. Our guide on how to clear a house after a bereavement is a useful first read if you are at the start of that process.
Either side of Monkstown we cover Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire and Glenageary, so a job that involves a house and a nearby storage unit or second flat can be done in one booking.
