Clearing homes in Walkinstown
Walkinstown was built in one push in the 1950s and early 1960s, as Dublin pushed its housing out past Crumlin and Drimnagh towards the Greenhills fields. The roads that came out of it are famous locally for their names: Bunting Road, Balfe Road, Harty Avenue, Field Avenue, Moeran Road, Esposito Road, Percy French Road and the rest of the musical roads, all lined with three-bedroom semi-ds and short terraces with a driveway and a garage.
Walkinstown Avenue, Walkinstown Road and Cromwellsfort Road carry the traffic, the Roundabout ties it all together, and the Long Mile Road with its car showrooms marks the edge towards Drimnagh. On the other side are the Greenhills and Ballymount industrial estates, with Kilnamanagh and Tallaght beyond.
For years these were houses that stayed in one family. That is changing. A good number are now being bought by younger couples who want a solid house near the city and the M50, and who want it stripped, rewired and extended before they move in. So alongside the bereavement and downsizing clearances we have always done here, we now do a lot of pre-renovation clear-outs.

What we clear in Walkinstown
- Pre-renovation clear-outs for new owners: every room emptied, old carpets lifted, garage and shed cleared, so the builder walks into a bare house. Our house clearance page explains how we quote for a full house.
- Bereavement and downsizing clearances for the families of original owners, with time to go through things first.
- Garages and workshops, where decades of tools, timber and car parts have gathered. Our garage clearance page explains how we handle them.
- Furniture and appliances: the wardrobes, beds, kitchen table, cooker and fridge that a new owner does not want. Our furniture removal page covers single items and part loads.
- Mixed junk from the back garden, the attic and under the stairs, loaded together as one general load.
Access, parking and the practical bits
Walkinstown is a straightforward place to work. The estate roads are wide, driveways are standard and there is no pay parking, so the van reverses up to the garage or the front door and we load directly. Most semi-ds have a side passage, which means garden and garage items come out without going through the house.
The Roundabout and the main roads are the only thing to plan for. Walkinstown Avenue, Greenhills Road and the Long Mile Road are heavy at rush hour and around the schools, so we aim to arrive mid-morning and to park on the side roads for the few houses that front onto the main routes.
Houses here are two storeys with a straight stair, so furniture comes down easily, and attics are reached by a hatch on the landing. If you are clearing before a renovation, tell us what is staying, for example a boiler or a fitted kitchen you plan to keep, and we work around it.
Why people in Walkinstown call us
Two kinds of people ring us from Walkinstown. The first is a family selling a parent’s home, often after it has been in the family since the house was new, who want it done respectfully and without being rushed. The second is a buyer who has just completed on a house that is full of the previous owner’s belongings and needs it empty by the date the builder starts. We quote both from WhatsApp photos, with the price fixed before we arrive.
We are an authorised waste carrier holding Waste Collection Permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, fully insured, and we are a Dublin crew for whom Walkinstown is a short hop around the M50. Items in usable condition are set aside for reuse or donation, recyclables are separated and the balance goes to a licensed waste transfer station. If you want to see what a clearance looks like before you book, our guide to how to prepare for a house clearance walks through the day.
Walkinstown runs into Crumlin and Drimnagh on the city side, Kimmage to the east and Greenhills and Tallaght to the south-west, and we treat all of Dublin 12 as one run.
