Clearing homes in Blessington
Blessington was laid out in the 1600s as an estate town, which is why Main Street is so wide and straight for a place its size, with St Mary’s church, the old Downshire hotel and terraces of two-storey houses along it. The lakes came in 1940 when the ESB flooded the Liffey valley for the Poulaphouca scheme, and they turned the town into a weekend destination for anglers, walkers and sailors from Dublin.
The housing grew with the commuters. Deerpark, Burgage and the estates off the Naas and Kilbride roads were built in the 1990s and 2000s, mostly three and four-bed semis and detached houses with garages, for people working in Tallaght, Citywest and Naas. Beyond the town it is open country: farmhouses with yards and sheds around Manor Kilbride, Lackan and Valleymount, one-off bungalows near the lake shore, and older cottages on the roads to Ballymore Eustace and Hollywood.
That mix of estate house and rural site, with Russborough House and the Blessington Greenway along the lake between them, is what the work here looks like.

What we clear in Blessington
- Estate homes in Deerpark, Burgage and the newer developments off Main Street, cleared for sale or between tenants, garage and attic included. Our house clearance page explains the process.
- Farmhouses and rural houses with outbuildings around Manor Kilbride, Lackan, Valleymount and Ballymore Eustace, quoted for the whole site after photos or a walk-round. Shed clearance and garage clearance cover what we find in the yard.
- Bereavement clearances in long-held family homes, in town and country, with time for the family to go through papers and keepsakes first.
- Houses that have filled up over decades, where a room or a whole floor has not been used for years. Our hoarder clearance page describes how we go about it.
- Lakeside and holiday houses that have been shut up and are finally being sold, often with damp furniture and years of garden gear in the shed.
Garden waste, old fencing and rubble from a yard or a fallen shed roof are a skip-type load rather than a van job, and a skip or a garden waste clearance service is the better fit for those.
Access, parking and the practical bits
Main Street is wide enough that parking is rarely the problem it is in older Wicklow towns, though the N81 traffic through the middle of it is constant and heavier at weekends from spring to autumn when people head for the lakes. For a house on the street we park at the kerb and carry; for the terraces behind it, a side lane or yard helps.
The estates are driveway and side gate. The rural sites are where planning matters: lanes to Lackan and Valleymount are narrow with stone walls, yards may be soft after rain, and a shed at the far side of a field adds carrying time. Send us the Eircode and a couple of photos of the entrance and yard and we will have the stop worked out before we leave Dublin.
From Dublin we come out on the M50 and N81 through Tallaght and Brittas, or by the N7 to Rathcoole and across through Kilteel. It is a shorter run than most of Wicklow for us, and we often group it with Naas, Tallaght or Rathcoole jobs so that the travel share of a quote stays low.
Why people in Blessington call us
Blessington calls come from families in Dublin sorting out a parent’s house in the town or a farmhouse in the hills, from people who moved out for the lakes twenty years ago and are now moving again, and from executors with a sale to close. A two-person crew with a box van and a waste collection permit does the lifting, the sorting and the disposal: usable items are kept for reuse or donation, recyclables are separated, and the remainder goes to a licensed transfer station.
What we do not do is send a van from Dublin for one item; a local man with a van or the council recycling centre is the better choice for that, and we will tell you straight. If the garage is the worst of it, our garage clearance guide tells you how to get it ready before we arrive.
Tallaght and Rathcoole are the Dublin side of the N81 run, Naas is the nearest Kildare town over the R410, and the rest of west Wicklow and the Kildare border country we cover case by case.
