Clearing homes in Wicklow Town
Wicklow Town climbs from the harbour and the river mouth up to the Market Square and along a Main Street that runs the length of the ridge. The Black Castle ruin stands on the rocks south of the harbour, Wicklow Gaol looks down from Kilmantin Hill, and the Murrough stretches north along the shingle towards the Broad Lough. The old town between them is terraces and three-storey town houses on Main Street, Abbey Street, Church Street and the lanes down to the quays, many with flats over shops.
The estates fan out from there. The Dunbur Road along the coast towards Wicklow Head has houses and bungalows from the 1960s and 1970s; Marlton, out the Marlton Road, and Ballynerrin, on the south side towards Brittas Bay, are 1990s and 2000s estates of three and four-bed semis; and the Ashford Road and Station Road side runs on into Rathnew, which has all but joined the town. Tinakilly and the newer developments sit between.
Beyond the edge of the town it is country: bungalows on their own sites, farmhouses with yards, and holiday homes towards Brittas Bay that get cleared when they are finally sold.

What we clear in Wicklow Town
- Town houses and terraces on Main Street, Abbey Street and the lanes to the harbour, with steep stairs, flats above shops and no off-street parking. Our house clearance page explains how a job like that is planned.
- Estate homes in Marlton, Ballynerrin and off the Ashford Road, cleared before a sale, a letting or a move into care.
- Bungalows and farmhouses around Rathnew, Ashford and Brittas Bay, with the garage, the sheds and the stuff that gathers under a lean-to. The shed clearance service covers the outbuildings.
- Bereavement clearances, which are the majority of the calls from the town, done quietly and in the order the family wants. See bereavement clearance.
- Furniture removal of the single awkward item as part of a bigger job: a wardrobe, a piano, a chest freezer out of a garage. We dismantle on site when it will not fit through the door.
Access, parking and the practical bits
Main Street is narrow, on-street parking is scarce and the lanes to the harbour are tighter still. For a town-centre job we come early on a weekday, stop as close to the door as the street allows with the hazards on, and carry; where a house has a yard onto a back lane, that is the way in. The streets around the Market Square are busiest on court days and when the town is full for a festival or the regatta.
Marlton, Ballynerrin and the Ashford Road estates are driveway or kerb with a side gate, the same as any Dublin suburb. Rural houses are about the lane and the yard, so a snap of the gateway along with the Eircode lets us work out where the van will stop.
From Dublin it is the M50 and N11, then the M11 to the Rathnew exit and into town. It is a proper run for a loaded van in each direction, which is why Wicklow Town jobs are whole houses and why we pair them with Greystones, Rathnew or Arklow on the same day when we can.
Why people in Wicklow Town call us
The pattern from Wicklow Town is a parent’s house or a relative’s bungalow that has to be emptied for sale, with the family in Dublin or abroad and no time for a dozen trips to the recycling centre. Estate agents and executors with a closing date ring about the same houses.
A two-person crew with a box van clears the house in one visit under a waste collection permit, so you know the end point: furniture and goods still fit for use go to reuse or donation, recyclables are pulled out, and the rest goes to a licensed transfer station. Our post on what drives the cost of a house clearance explains why distance, volume and stairs all matter to the quote.
If all you have is one item or a few bags, a local collection is the better and cheaper answer, and we will tell you so rather than drive down from Dublin for it.
Greystones and Bray are the towns we pass on the way down, and Arklow is the next stop south along the coast.
