House Clearance Tullamore

Tullamore is the county town of Offaly, built on the Grand Canal, with a whiskey name known around the world and a centre of Georgian and Victorian streets around O'Connor Square. House clearance in Tullamore for us means full houses in estates such as Arden, Clonminch and Spollanstown and bungalows on the roads out to the bog, roughly ninety minutes from Dublin with travel in the quote.

Clearing homes in Tullamore

Tullamore is a canal town. The Grand Canal comes in from the east, widens into the harbour by Bury Quay and carries on west towards the Shannon, and the bonded warehouse that once held Tullamore Dew casks still stands beside the water. O’Connor Square, Church Street, Bridge Street, High Street and Columb Street hold the Georgian and Victorian core, with town houses, terraces, flats over shops and the Bridge Centre, and Charleville Castle sits in its woods on the Birr side of town.

The estates are the second Tullamore. Arden on the Arden Road, Clonminch on the Dublin side, Spollanstown to the west and Marian Place and the older council estates nearer the centre run from the 1970s through the 2000s, and the newer phases went up around the hospital and the Clonminch Road. Three and four-bed semis with a driveway, a side gate and a shed are what most calls are about.

Then there is Offaly itself: flat country, bog, and small farms. The roads to Clara, Kilbeggan, Daingean, Blueball and Mucklagh are lined with bungalows, dormers and two-storey farmhouses, many with a workshop or a hayshed, and these make for the largest clearances we do in the county.

What we clear in Tullamore

  • Full house clearances in Arden, Clonminch, Spollanstown and the newer estates, before a sale, a move or a new letting, with the attic and the shed in the same quote.
  • Bereavement clearances in the terraces, the council estates and the farmhouses, handled at the family’s pace with personal items set aside. Our bereavement clearance page explains how we work with executors.
  • Garages and sheds that hold a lifetime of tools, timber and spares. The garage clearance page describes what we take and what we sort out for scrap.
  • Attics in 1970s and 80s houses, boarded out and never emptied, cleared in one go.
  • Rural bungalows and farmhouses with outbuildings around the town, quoted as a whole site after photos or a walk-round.

Ninety minutes down the M6

Our crew is Dublin-based and travels out to Tullamore; we do not keep a van in Offaly. From Dublin the route is the M50 to the M4, the M6 to the Tullamore exit and the N52 into town, which is about an hour and a half with a loaded van. We are honest that this makes Tullamore a full-house and larger-jobs area for us, while a single piece of furniture is better served by someone local.

Travel is part of the fixed quote agreed before the day. We group Offaly jobs with Mullingar, Athlone and Longford work wherever we can, so flexibility on the date tends to help the price. Our guide to how far we go from Dublin explains how distance and volume are weighed against each other.

Parking, lanes and getting in

In the estates the van sits on the driveway or at the kerb and we carry out through the hall or the side gate. The town centre around O’Connor Square and Church Street is metered and tight, with one-way streets and flats over shops reached by steep stairs, so we arrive early there and use rear access where there is any.

Country lanes are usually fine for a box van, but a soft yard, a narrow gateway or a long carry from a back shed adds time, so tell us about the approach when you send photos. On Tullamore Show weekend in August the roads around the town fill from early morning, and we avoid it if we can.

Why people in Tullamore call us

Most of our Tullamore work comes from families with a parent’s house to clear and nobody left in the county to do it, from executors with a deadline, and from landlords in the newer estates turning a house around between tenants. In each case the appeal is one crew, one visit and one price, rather than a skip on the drive and a week of carrying.

A two-person crew with a box van handles a standard estate house in a day and a farmhouse with full outbuildings in two. We hold a waste collection permit, so usable furniture and goods go for reuse or donation, metal, timber and cardboard are recycled, and what remains goes to a licensed transfer station. If you want the house ready before we arrive, our post on how to prepare for a house clearance lists the few things that help.

Tullamore sits between Mullingar to the north and Portlaoise to the south-east, and Athlone is a short run west, so a job here is usually part of a midlands day.

House clearance in Tullamore: your questions

How far is Tullamore for you and what size of job do you take on there?

About ninety minutes from Dublin by the M50, M4 and M6 and then the N52 into town, and we are a Dublin crew rather than an Offaly one. For that reason we take full-house and larger clearances in Tullamore rather than single items, and the travel is included in the fixed quote. We try to group Offaly jobs with Westmeath ones in the same run.

We are clearing a parent's house in Arden before it goes on the market. What do we need to do first?

Walk through it and set aside what the family is keeping, then send us photos of every room, the attic and the shed on WhatsApp. We quote from those, agree a date, and do the rest; you do not need to bag or sort anything. Our guide on how to prepare for a house clearance covers the small jobs that help.

Can you take a shed and garage full of old tools, paint tins and garden chemicals?

The shed and the garage are no problem, and we sort scrap metal, timber and reusable tools as we go. Paint in bulk, chemicals, fuel and gas cylinders are not something we carry, so set those aside and we will point you to the right place for them.

Do you cover Clara, Kilbeggan, Daingean and the countryside towards Birr?

We do, under the same Offaly quote. Clara and Kilbeggan are a few minutes from Tullamore, Daingean and Rhode are between the town and the motorway, and Birr and Banagher are further but still reachable for a full house when grouped with other work.

Is Edenderry easier for you to reach than Tullamore?

Yes, it is a shorter run. Edenderry is in the east of Offaly close to the Kildare border, and we reach it off the M4 at Enfield rather than going on down the M6, so a house there can be grouped with Kildare or Meath work as easily as with Tullamore. The same rule applies, though: full houses and larger jobs.

My aunt's council house in Tullamore has to be handed back empty. Can you work to the council's date?

Yes. When a local authority tenancy ends, Offaly County Council will normally want the house returned empty with the keys, so check the hand-back date with the housing section and give it to us early. We clear everything the family is not keeping, and you return the keys once you have seen the empty rooms.

Our tenants in Spollanstown are leaving at the end of the month and say they will leave some furniture. When should we book?

Pencil in a date for the first few days after they go, then send photos once you have the keys back. What tenants leave is not always what they said, so the photos let us confirm the quote before the van leaves Dublin. With Tullamore about ninety minutes away, a little flexibility on the day helps us pair it with other Offaly work.

There is a turf shed full of old furniture behind my father's bungalow near Tullamore. Do you take the turf as well?

The furniture, bikes and general junk in it, yes. Leftover turf is fuel rather than waste, so it is better offered to a neighbour or left for the buyer, and we leave it stacked unless you ask us about it first. Photos of the inside of the shed show us how much is in there.

The house is on a bog road outside Tullamore. Is that a problem for a loaded van?

Not usually, but bog roads in Offaly can be narrow, uneven and soft at the edges, so a loaded van has to keep to the middle and cannot pull onto the verge. Send a photo of the road near the house and the entrance, and tell us if it is single-track, so we know where to stop and turn.

Would a skip outside a house near O'Connor Square be easier than your van?

Usually not. The streets around O'Connor Square are narrow and busy, a skip on a public road normally needs a permit from the council, and it sits there for days while someone fills it. Our van is loaded and gone in one visit, and we do the lifting and sorting that a skip leaves to you.
